I’m just your typical woman of a certain age, with a husband and four dogs – who is obsessed with an old TV show.

OK, there is a bit more to me than that.

I grew up in New Jersey, in what is fondly referred to as “a simpler time”. We rode our bikes all day through the neighborhood in the summer, and if you happened to be at a friend’s house you were invited for lunch. We rode home hot and sweaty from the day’s fun just in time for dinner. Our parents never worried about where we were or who we were with (maybe they should have, just a little).

In the evenings we sat around our one TV and watched our favorite shows as a family. My mother wasn’t much of a TV viewer, so my dad and my sister and I kind of ruled what we watched. It was mostly westerns, some comedies. When my two younger brothers were old enough to stay up as late as we were, the TV viewing shifted a bit more toward comedy. My parents thought that the westerns of the 60’s were a bit too violent for their young ages. Boy, have things changed!

With all of the TV westerns churned out in the 50’s and 60’s it amazes me that many of them are still being shown on TV to this day. It’s still fun to watch old episodes of Gunsmoke, The Virginian, The Big Valley, The High Chaparral, etc. – the list goes on.

But unlike the shows mentioned above, there was one show that was so short lived it seems to get lost in the shuffle. That show is Lancer. Rarely mentioned in conversations about the great westerns of that time, it continues to hold a place in the hearts of the many, many fans that never forgot it.

Which brings me to this blog. Now that the episodes are readily available, via YouTube and cable TV (now saved on my DVR), I decided to re-watch each episode in order to see if it still holds up – does it still remain my all-time favorite TV show? I’m pretty sure it does. I hope you will join in and let me know your thoughts.

Lots of Lancer Love,

Linda

and Just for fun…..

Below is a Wiki link of a list of TV Westerns – NOTE: the last one on this list, “Godless”, is a Netflix show that I highly recommend. One of the best new westerns that I have seen in a very long time, with a bit of a twist.
