Thank you to everyone who responded to our first poll on the Lancer TV Blog Facebook group. I will explain the reason for the poll in just a bit.
A week or so ago someone posted a link to an article from February 2020 on the Six Gun Justice website (apologies, I don’t remember which Lancer group or who posted it, but I will link the article below).
I remember reading this article before but never bothered to look at the comments at the bottom – until now. I was surprised when none of the names looked familiar (with the exception of Kit Prate). So, two things seem to be happening here: 1) there are hidden Lancer fans that are not in any of the current Facebook groups, and 2) our group members probably did not see this when it was originally posted, and therefore did not comment.
I see both of these things as unrealized potential.
How in the world are we going to get recognition for our underrated, yet beloved by many, favorite TV western? How can the Lancer fandom compete with the likes of fandoms like Gunsmoke, Bonanza and The Virginian?
When Quentin Tarantino made the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” did he showcase any of those 3 popular mega-seasons shows? Nope! He decided to go with a seemingly obscure show that only survived for 2 seasons – Lancer. And we’re glad he did, as it gave Lancer a bit of a jolt so many years later. I have read numerous articles and movie reviews that include his homage to Lancer, yet I don’t think I recall seeing one where he is seriously questioned, “why Lancer?”. If any of you have seen something – please let me know.
Now to address the reason for the poll on the Lancer TV Blog Facebook group.
How do we get Lancer back on TV? How do we someday, maybe, get Lancer on DVD?
It needs to be noticed – and we do that by using social media. I understand the reason why so many of the current Facebook groups are private – it’s necessary. However, the Lancer TV Blog and its sister Facebook group are public for a reason. I want people outside of our groups to see that Lancer is still so fondly remembered.
Is this pie in the sky thinking? Maybe. Call me crazy – but I’m going for it. I will be creating a Twitter account and Instagram account as a tribute to Lancer and its stars. And because it’s no fun talking to myself, I encourage all Lancer fans to join, engage, and use tags, comments, etc. Let’s see if we can get this thing rolling – and maybe, just maybe, someone will notice. I’m hoping for Mr. Tarantino himself – but hey, I’m a dreamer.
Oh, and to tease just a little, there may be some surprises coming (fingers crossed), so stay tuned.
Are you in? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
Lots of Lancer Love,
Linda

Why Lancer? I thought I read somewhere that QT was a Lancer fan from his childhood, but I can’t find it. I did read an interview where he said, he and Brad Pitt were both big Alias Smith and Jones fans, the western immediately followed Lancer’s years. QT was also a huge fan of workman-like directors and knew many of their films and tv episodes, which would include Wannamaker, who directed the Lancer pilot. Clearly QT was also a James Stacy fan. His New Beverly theater had a tribute night to Stacy in Nov 2016, a few months after he died, where they showed the Lancer pilot and Posse.
QT wrote in a blog review of Stacy’s Gunsmoke Vengeance episodes (which I think he later incorporated into his novelization of OUATIH) — http://138.68.3.67/tarantinos-reviews/ — that clearly show an admiration for Stacy. But there must have been something in the pilot episode that made QT want to remake it and improve on it in his version.

Thanks for sharing that. I will definitely read through it. Apparently he also discusses in a Conan O’Brien podcast – which I will be listening too later.

Linda,
Thank you for your work to make Lancer more visible to others. I would love to see more reruns, and nothing would thrill me like a quality set of DVDs of the series. So, let me know if I can help make it happen. Your blogs are wonderful. I’ll comment more when I have more time. For now, know that you are appreciated.

Hi Caterina, i have got Lancer on dvd , you can purchase them from DVDRARE. Com. The episodes are taken from the original broadcast tapes so are not digitally remastered but are not in a bad condition, unfortunately 2 episodes appear to be missing, but i am happy with them overall.
